1) Complete the conclusion for Lab 11 Rock ID Lab. You must use the CEI format as outlined on your lab handout. You can view a partially complete example of a conclusion in the PowerPoint file Rock ID Lab. You may also view the lab data table and conclusion format under Rock ID Lab Data Table. - Due Monday, January 3, 2016. Please ensure that you either type it or write it neatly on loose leaf paper.
2) In the Earth Science Review Guide, read pages 231-237. After or as you read about the Rock Cycle and Mineral Resources, record key ideas and facts on your graphic organizer in the EXTRAS section.
3) Using the information that you read and your own knowledge of Earth Science and mineral/rock uses, write a piece (must be in complete and detailed sentences) that explains how you use rocks and minerals in your daily life. The best approach to take on this is to walk us through a day in your life, highlighting your encounters and/or use of rocks and minerals. This MUST be posted on this blog by 8:00 am Monday, January 3, 2016. If you do not have an account, you have a whole week to figure out how to create one.
This blog will be used throughout the year to assist you in various ways, for example, to provide you with homework posts , a list of resources and/or video links, regents prep, etc.

I use rocks in many ways. One such way is when I take a shower. the bathtub is made out of tiled marble, and without it there is no shower. Another is a pencil, as the graphite in it is a rock, and how I write. A third is whenever I turn on electricity, it comes from coal, a rock.

ReplyDeleteI use rocks by walking on concrete, concrete is made of many rocks which we walk on. We use graphite to write with pencils for homework, test and other things. That's how rocks and minerals are used in our daily lives.
ReplyDeleteI use rocks everyday without noticing it. For example, when I use a pencil, it includes graphite. I also use toothpaste everyday which includes fluoride. Another example is that I put salt on my food which is halite.
ReplyDeleteI use rocks and minerals in many ways. For example, when I use my pencils I'm writing with graphite. I also use coal everyday for electricity. Lastly, I use rock salt to melt ice and snow.
ReplyDeleteI am able to use rocks and minerals in my daily life in a multitude of ways, sometimes without even realizing it. For example, the bricks and tiles that make up my house are made from clay minerals. Additionally, all glass items in my house are mostly made out of Quartz. Also, Pots and pans are made from metal - stainless steel, cast iron, copper or aluminium. All of these come from minerals. These things, and many more are how rocks and minerals are a part of my everyday life. (:P)
ReplyDeleteIn my daily life, I'm able to use rocks and minerals in many ways. For example, I'm using fluoride when I brush my teeth in the morning, since it is in toothpaste. Throughout the school day, I use graphite when I take notes, do homework, and more because it is in my pencil. Cups that I drink out of are made of quartz, because they are mostly glass. My kitchen counter is made of granite, and I use my counter to serve food, and more. These are just a few examples of how us humans can use rocks and minerals in our everyday lives, mostly without realizing it. In conclusion, I learned that without rocks and minerals, we wouldn't be able to do a lot of things, and we should notice how rocks and minerals affect our everyday lives.
ReplyDeleteIn my daily life I use rocks and minerals in different ways. For example the glass in my glasses are made out of sand which is a mineral. My house has cement which is used to hold my house into place. Cement is made out of many minerals dried up together like clay.

ReplyDeleteIn my daily life I use rocks and minerals in different ways. for example, iron is a mineral and iron is in some foods that we eat. So we sometimes eat iron and other minerals that are in the food. Another way we use it is when we write, we use graphite in our pencils to take down notes. Another way we use minerals is to pack food, we use aluminum foil to wrap our sandwiches and food so it stays warm. In conclusion we use minerals in our everyday lives and sometimes don't even realize it.
ReplyDeleteI use minerals and rocks on a daily basis. For example, when I eat food or drink water it contains minerals in it such as iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron. Also, my kitchen table and bathroom sink is made out of granite and/or marble. When I go to school, I usually walk on cement which is made from rocks/minerals and roads can be made from basalt (rock). To add on, I use pencils, which uses graphite and the rock slate can be used of roofing and chalkboards. In conclusion, rocks and minerals help us humans in many ways.
ReplyDeleteI use rocks and minerals in my daily life. For example, I use graphite (a mineral) when I write with a pencil. The coins I use are made of copper, iron, etc. The water I drink and the food I eat often contains numerous minerals. The paper i write on may contain calcite. In conclusion we use minerals and rocks everyday.
ReplyDeleteHow can I use rocks and minerals in everyday life? rocks and minerals are everywhere we use granite as a table and also rocks to build fancy things. Minerals help us for our daily life like when we have to go to work or any destination we would use transportation and cars are made from minerals.
ReplyDeleteIf we did not have rocks or minerals we would not be able to have cars trains planes you would not be able to clean your teeth or wash your cloths because all these things have could be made from minerals and we could not make any houses or buildings and that will lead to bad. minerals are also good for jewelry for example diamond because it's expensive and shiny. If it were not for minerals would not have eletronics or anything that is in use of minerals because without them we can’t get better If we are ill or injured.
I use rocks and minerals everyday. For example first thing in the morning I brush my teeth toothpaste has minerals in the toothpaste, just like in some foods I eat there is iron. Also when I write in school I use a pencil and the "led" is graphite which is a rock. My house is made up of brick which is some kind of rock which means every day i'm dealing with rocks.

ReplyDeleteI use rocks in my everyday life. For example, in school I use pencils that have graphite in them. Apparently there are minerals in toothpaste so that's another example. Since I have 3 cats there's two litter boxes on my terrace. Kitty litter has minerals in it so I have to deal with rocks every day.
ReplyDeleteI use minerals and rocks in my daily life. For example, I use pencils which are made out of Graphite. Also we can also find minerals and rocks in jewelries and some staircases out side our houses.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't realized already you use or see rocks and minerals in your everyday life. For example slate can be seen on roofs. My neighbor has slate tiles on both his house and garage roofs. Also another daily encounter is granite. We have it though out the house, the floors, the stairs, the kitchen countertops, and our tabletop. Granite is durable and doesn't scratch easily. Another rock I see in the neighborhood is cobblestone, some people use it to pave their driveway.
ReplyDeleteSome minerals or things that are composed of minerals that I use and/or see everyday is pencils. The lead in the is composed of graphite. Another mineral I see is talc, it's in the baby powder used on my newborn cousin. Finally, another mineral I see daily is copper which is found in coins such as pennies.
As you can see, I see plenty of rocks and minerals in my everyday life. You may not think or know you do, but you do.
I use ricks and minerals everyday. Most of the time I don't even realize I use it. Walking outside it using rocks and minerals. I'm walking on concrete. Also, writing is using minerals. There's graphite in a pencil. Those are two ways I use minerals.
ReplyDeleteI use rocks and minerals everyday, sometimes you don't know it. For example for school we use pencils to write with and there is graphite in it. We also walk on minerals everyday outside on the concrete.

ReplyDeleteWe use minerals and rocks everyday in our lives however we aren't aware of it. For example during class or at home we use pencils. Pencils contain led which is known as graphite. Graphite is considered a mineral. Another example would be Table tops. Most table tops are made out of granite or cobblestone since both minerals are quite durable. Another example would be copper we see it often however don't realize it. An example of copper would be pennies. Based off the life examples that I have given minerals are used or can be used on a daily basis.

DeleteWe use rocks and minerals in our daily life so often to the point were we don't even realize/notice them. For a few perfect examples; I use a pencil every single school day and the pencil I use contains graphite and that is a mineral. Another common factor I use in my daily life is tooth paste, tooth paste contains rocks and minerals, but it is so small to the grain were you would have to see them through a close up lense. Another common factor we use that has rocks in them is the table tops in our home,(kitchen, tables, bathroom tops) etc. But they contain rocks and minerals in them to. Even if you were to step outside at this sudden momment and glance hard enough at the floor(concrete, tar) you will see mini rocks stuck all together and we don't even realize it !

We use minerals and rocks in our everyday life, without even knowing it! Like our salt, toothpaste, tap water, construction, certain medicines, light bulbs, and vitamins. There are so many other uses like in soil. The are many minerals and rocks in soil which helps trees and other plants grow. These are some of the many ways we use minerals in our daily life's.
ReplyDeleteWe use rocks and minerals in our lives but since we use it so much we have gotten to the point were we don't even realize anymore. For example everyday we write with pencils and pencils hold graphite in them. Another example is countertops made of granite, stone, etc. But therefore rocks and minerals are in our daily lifes and without them out lives would be very different.

We use rocks and minerals everyday in our lives. Without rocks, our houses would be made out of mus instead of bricks or even entirely out of plastic. Not only will the house be gloomy, but very weak. Graphite is a mineral in our pencils that lets us write and the streak of certain types of rocks is chalk.
ReplyDeleteIts 5:30 am, Its a cold breeze in my room. I stand and start to get ready for breakfast. I look around my room and I see a rock that I took from Greece. It was a special rock to me. When I was at Greece this rock was special because it was red, smooth, seemed like a layer and best of all it could write. I used it to rub/write on another rock and it would make red line. As I see it I can remember the reason why I took it. As I head to the kitchen to get cereal I notice my fish tank. It also has round rocks. Its origin and appearance aren't as amazing as the rock I have in my room, but its there below where my fishes swim. They are round and grey. One covered with black stripes while the other is covered with black dots. Once breakfast is over, I continue with my routine, and leave to catch the bus. One thing that always strikes me is that my neighbor's garden is full of rocks instead of grass. There are different types of colors on them black, white, and red. All set in a unique design. I start to run to the bus stop and then drop my pencil. Did you know that these materials hold graphite on them. After that I head to school and encounter more rocks along the way.
ReplyDeleteWe use rocks and minerals every single day. We even live inside rocks and minerals because our houses are made of cement, wood, bricks and a lot of other rocks and minerals. In the summer when a lot of people are barbecuing some people use coal or wood to activate there grill.
ReplyDeleteSince the Stone Age, rocks and minerals were essential for the development of our civilization. Human’s homes were caves with walls from rocks. Utensils and spears were created from minerals such as obsidian and flint. From that time, humans have progressed and learned to use rocks and minerals in more sophisticated ways. Many minerals are used in jewelry and art expression. Personally, I like my mom’s obsidian necklace that I wear sometimes, although my favorite mineral is my birth gemstone, which is blue topaz (silicate mineral). I admire jewelry made from sapphires (oxide mineral), rubies (aluminum oxide with chromium mineral variety), emeralds (beryl mineral variety), and of course, diamonds, the most desirable mineral of all (which, amazingly, is a form of carbon, just like the graphite in a pencil, but in a different structure).
ReplyDeleteThe most advanced part of our lives is driven by technology that involves computers and telecommunication. In the average computer, there are about 66 minerals that are necessary to build it. The monitor contains zinc sulfide, silver, aluminum, copper, gold, potassium-magnesium fluoride, and manganese. CRT glass has lead and SiO2 while LCD monitors have lead. Glass, lead, zinc sulfide, silver, and aluminum are necessary to build the flat screen plasma display monitors. Computer chips contain silicon, copper, gold, silver, and aluminum among the other minerals.
These are only a few examples of how minerals and rocks are important in our lives.

I use rocks and minerals in my everyday life. For example, in school I use a pencil to write and a pencil has graphite in it. In the morning I take something that has minerals in it. Also batteries have minerals.
ReplyDeleteWe use minerals and rocks in our lives, everyday. For example, we use graphite in our pencils to write and at school to take notes. When we brush our teeth, fluoride and other minerals are used to make the tooth paste. Usually when we eat something it contains salt which is made out of the mineral halite. We also use rocks in our lives, for example, we use sidewalks to go from one place to another, sidewalks contain cement, gravel, and sand. We use electricity that is generated by coal. Another way we use rocks is in our houses when we walk around and use a floor, our house are made of marble, cement, or other rocks. Therefore, we use rocks and minerals in our lives.
ReplyDeleteWe use rocks and minerals in our everyday lives like pencils in graphite and granite on countertops and there are diamonds on jewelry
ReplyDeleteRocks and minerals are an important and essential part of our lives. Without them we would not be able to live the way we do. We use rocks and minerals everyday and most of the time we do not even realize it. Some examples are computers which are made of wolframite, copper, silver and quartz and phones which are made of chromite, copper, silver and graphite. Even things like toothpaste are made from minerals like fluorite. pencils also are made of minerals because they contain graphite. Without all these minerals most things we have today would not be here and life would not be the same
ReplyDeleteWe use rocks and minerals everyday because they are what make up our houses. Cement brick and wood is what makes up my house. Also this is what the school is made of too.
