Earth Science Regents Lab Practical Exam is on Monday, June 6, 2016.  Students with accommodations or absent students will take the Practical Exam on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.  The lab concepts tested for on this exam include:  Rock and Mineral Identification, Locating the Epicenter of an Earthquake, and Eccentricity and Elliptical Orbits.  There are many useful online videos (see a few links below) to use to review this material.

This evening for homework, please complete a comparison and contrast of Jovian and Terrestrial planets.  You may use your Earth Science Reference Table, Earth Science Review Guide and any other resources to assist you.  The format you choose to present this information is up to you (for example, a t-chart, Venn diagram, etc).  Please bring this to class tomorrow.  You may complete it in your notebook or on loose leaf paper.

Also, make sure that you have all the research for your part of the Planet Poster Project complete and with you in class tomorrow so that you can work on creating your poster presentation and scaled drawing of your planet.  If you have any materials you would like to bring to use to create your planet or poster, please do so.  I will have available, scissors, glue, markers, colored pencils, construction paper and chart paper.

Do not forget that lab work must be submitted by May 20th for the Regents exam qualification.

1)  Life Cycle of a Star Project:  Research and record information about each stage of the life cycle of a star on the graphic organizer provided to you.  Use your review guide and the online resource links provided on your project handout to gather information from.  Your graphic organizer/diagram and a chosen option for your representation of the life cycle will be due on Wednesday, May 13 at the start of class.

The rough draft of your written narrative piece will be due on Friday, May 15 at the start of class.  The final project will be due next week.

In class you received a 3-page package  you must complete over the break.  It is due on Monday, May 2nd.  Included in the package is a reference page (back of the 2nd page) you can refer to for assistance in completing the Orographic Effect section.   In the Greenhouse Effect handout, the reference table does not currently provide wavelength values in centimeters, you may disregard question 2.  The final page is a review of the water cycle, which you have covered in past years.  

In addition, if you have not completed Lab 18 Station Models, please ensure that you do so and hand it in on Monday, May2nd.  Refer to the ES Blog for links to the lab and powerpoint related to the topic.

1) PORTFOLIO: You must complete 2 reflections for 2 Earth Science pieces of work you have completed.  Your first entry must be the ROCK CYCLE NARRATIVE including a reflection.  Your second entry can be one of your choice (you may choose any lab/assignment/classwork/test/quiz) and complete a reflection for this piece also.  If you did not complete the rock cycle narrative assignment, then you must write a reflection for this assignment explaining why it was not completed, plus you must choose TWO additional portfolio pieces.

For each lab you will write a reflection that includes the following:

-Restate what the assignment asked you to do in your own word

-What was the objective of the lab/assignment (what did you learn)

-What standards were addressed in the lab

-discuss your process for completion

-discuss challenges you faced

-discuss changes you would make

-how would you assess yourself in regards to the checklist

If you have not done so, first you must sign up for a student account at www.ck12.org using your WJPS email account.  Then, you will join your class group using the information and code provided via the email sent through PupilPath.  Complete the sections entitled #1 Theory of Continental Drift, #2 Seismic Waves, and #3 Locating Earthquake Epicenters, which includes readings, videos/simulations, practice quizzes and a culminating quiz per assignment.  All data is sent directly to me, you do not need to print out or hand anything in on paper.  This will be due on Monday, February 22, 2016.

1)   Cumulative End of Term Assessment on Thursday, January 21, 2016.  Topics to be covered:  Measurement, Density, Graphing (cyclic change), Rate of Change, Earth's Size & Shape, Mapping (Latitude & Longitude and Time zones), Topographic Maps (gradient, land profiles, isolines, etc.), Rocks & Minerals (rock ID and mineral ID), Rock cycle, and the Earth's Interior. 

Use your notebook/classwork and tests/quizzes to help you review.
